‘For us, vaccinating front-line workers and risk groups first has always been the priority,’ said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. ‘Now that most of the doctors and other medical professionals, and a significant part of risk groups, teachers, rescue workers and police officers have been vaccinated, it is time to vaccinate other people working on strategic positions for Estonia, to ensure state governance in the crisis situation,’ said Kallas.
The Prime Minister also called on all people of Estonia who receive an invitation to vaccinate to certainly use this opportunity. ‘All vaccines used in Estonia provide effective protection from serious illness and by vaccinating oneself, every person can contribute to getting the epidemic under control,’ Kallas emphasised.
As at today, a total of 122,087 residents of Estonia have been vaccinated; 50,691 of them have received both injections. The vaccination pace of Estonia is acceleration – over 11,100 vaccinations were done in the last 24 hours, which is a new record.
Vaccination of people in risk groups that are of old age and with chronic illnesses, and front-line workers as well, will continue.
Of people above 80 years of age, 31 per cent of people in Estonia have received at least one vaccine dose, and the figure is much higher in some counties. The highest coverage of people above 80 years of age with at least one vaccine dose is in Hiiu County (53 per cent), Saare County (51 per cent) and Lääne County (51 per cent).
As at Monday, 5211 people from the Police and Border Guard Board, the Rescue Board and the Emergency Response Centre have been vaccinated. 58 per cent of front-line workers working in the field of internal security have received the first vaccine dose.
As at Wednesday, at least one dose of vaccine has been administered to 13,440 employees of general education schools who have expressed their wish to receive the vaccine, which is almost 85 per cent of the people who have requested it, and to 3001 employees of kindergartens and childcare institutions, which makes up almost 45% of the applicants.
As at today, vaccination has been provided for all healthcare professionals who wished for it, including doctors, nurses, caregivers, midwives, pharmacists, and others.
This weekend, 6000 people above the age of 65 are able to get vaccinated at different medical institutions across Estonia.
This week, the objective is to administer a total of at least 40,000 vaccine doses.
