“Europe must show that it stands firmly behind Ukraine. Promises must be followed by actions,” the Prime Minister emphasised. “The pressure on Russia must also continue to limit their ability to wage a war,” he said, referring to sanctions and seizing frozen Russian assets.
In order to boost competitiveness, Michal said, EU law must be simplified and the administrative burden on businesses and Member States reduced. “For example, sustainability reporting could be voluntary,” the Prime Minister explained. “This is what our companies are waiting for.”
The leaders will also discuss the situation in the Middle East, migration and the protection of oceans. There will also be a first debate on the next multi-annual budgetary framework of the European Union and an extended summit of the euro area.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also invited to the working lunch of EU Heads of Government and Heads of State.
