According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Gothenburg has become one of the most important centres for innovation, smart cities, and mobility in the region and has long been of interest to Estonian companies. “Estonia also has a lot to offer in terms of smart mobility, digitalisation, and green technologies,” said Kallas. “Sweden is one of Estonia’s most important business and trade partners. The purpose of the visit is to help both Estonian and Swedish entrepreneurs and experts find new useful contacts and cooperation opportunities,” she added.
Prime Minister Kallas said that she was committed to deeper integration in the Baltic Sea region. “The digital and green transition has a key role to play here,” said Kallas. According to the prime minister, the Estonian economy has successfully recovered from the COVID crisis and it is now time to start thinking about the future of our region. “The Nordic and Baltic countries are already making the Baltic Sea region one of the most integrated, environmentally friendly, and digital regions in Europe. We must continue this work. Together, we can set an example to the whole world in the field of digital and green innovation,” said Kallas.
The prime minister also met in Gothenburg today with the leaders of VOLVO Cars and representatives of Ericsson, AI Sweden, and development centres in the field of mobility.
The prime minister also plans to visit the Ågrenska counselling and development centre for children and young people with disabilities and their families, whose subsidiary is the Estonian Agrenska Foundation in Tartu County. In addition, Prime Minister Kallas will meet with the local Estonian community at the Estonian House in Gothenburg.
Tomorrow, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will be in Stockholm, where she will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson and a business lunch with the heads of large Swedish companies and development centres. In addition, she will take part in a discussion at the Folk och Försvar think tank focusing on security.
