Prime Minister Jüri Ratas attends World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos

Tallinn-Davos, 21 January 2019 – Prime Minister Jüri Ratas will be present from today thru Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, and will take part in the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Ratas will take part in discussions on education, e-state, cyber security, foreign policy and economic development, and will meet with different companies and heads of states.

Nearly 3000 heads of state, entrepreneurs, academics, representatives of civil society and thought leaders will be meeting at the Economic Forum. The main topic of this anniversary meeting of the Forum is a coherent and sustainable world in cooperation between different interest groups. The aim of the Economic Forum is to help countries and international organisations to reach the objectives of the Paris Agreement and sustainable development, and to promote the exchanging of ideas related to technology governance and trade.

‘It is very important for Estonia to participate in discussions where issues concerning the whole world are being discussed. We are currently facing a number of significant challenges, from climate change to geopolitics, and it is at moments like these that it is important to consult one another on these issues,’ said Prime Minister Jüri Ratas. ‘In various discussions, I am able to confidently rely on Estonia’s knowledge about building an e-government and creating a successful education system. We can share our experience regarding digital development or our school system and listen to other’s stories, for example, about directing technological development.’

In Davos, Ratas will be participating in discussions on education development, cyber security and the future of the Eastern and Central European economy; he will also be presenting the experiences and investment opportunities offered by the Estonian e-state – in particular e-health digital identity and digital society – to representatives of large companies and state and government leaders.

Ratas is scheduled to meet with executives from Google, Airbus, logistics company GMA GMC, Novartis, Palantir, and Japan Development Bank (JBIC), for example. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold meetings with the presidents of Colombia and Iraq, and the prime ministers of Ukraine and Georgia.

Jüri Ratas is attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting for the third time. The Prime Minister will be back in Estonia late in evening on Thursday, 23 January.
