Tallinn, The Stenbock House, January 11, 2005 - The World Economic Forum awarded Juhan Parts the title of Young Global Leader in 2005.
The title of Young Global Leader is given to persons who have managed to reach a position of influence and responsibility in their field of activity while being under the age of 40 and whose activity so far has shown that they are highly competent and act in the best interests of the society. Those awarded with the title will take part in the Forum of Young Global Leaders and will engage in the 2020 initiative and events taking place in the framework of the Forum during the next five years. The Forum of Young Global Leaders was created by Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Chairman of World Economic Forum in 2004 and acts in close cooperation with the World Economic Forum in their joint commitment to improving the state of the world. From 2005 to 2009 the title will be awarded to 1111 persons from all over the world.
This year, the award was given to 237 internationally distinguished persons from a variety of fields of activity (business, politics, public associations, learning, media, arts, and science). The title was awarded to 72 Europeans; nominees were selected from 8000 candidates.
An external nomination committee elects the Young Global Leaders. Among the other members of the committee are Steve Forbes, President and Chief Executive Officer of Forbes Inc., Carl-Johan Bonnier, Chairman of Bonnier AB, Tom Glocer, Chief Executive Officer of Reuters Group Plc, Marjorie Scardino, Chief Executive of Pearson Plc and Arthur Sulzberger, Chairman and Publisher of The New York Times.
The World Economic Forum is an independent association of business, political, and spiritual leaders not run for profit devoted to solving global problems. The aim of the activity of the Forum is to promote public interests while keeping in mind global economic growth and social development.
