“Estonia supports Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and continues to provide assistance even if Russia’s aggression in Ukraine turns into a war. We are constantly consulting with our allies in supporting Ukraine,” said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. “Estonia has increased its readiness to mitigate side effects of war in accordance with our action plan. In addition to the state, every person, company and institution must think what to do if the crisis in Ukraine escalates into a military attack, which may have an impact on us all.”
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Eva-Maria Liimets, the Estonian Embassy in Kyiv will remain in operation. “Even though the situation in Ukraine is tense, the Estonian Embassy will continue its work in Kyiv and provide assistance to Estonian people in leaving Ukraine, but it is important to stress that if the situation should become more complicated, we may, despite our embassy’s high capability, encounter temporary disruptions for reasons beyond our control. Therefore it is important for the Estonian people in Ukraine to clearly review their travel plans and find ways to leave the country,” the minister added.
According to Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet, the situation surrounding Ukraine continues to be tense and is likely to intensify in the near future. “Estonia is closely monitoring the developments together with our allies and the allied support to our region is certain,” said Laanet, adding that last week the United Kingdom confirmed dispatching additional units to Estonia and new decisions and statements about sending extra capabilities to the Baltic region are constantly made. Estonia will also continue to provide firm support to Ukraine and will not withdraw the servicemen who are in the country to provide training.
