According to Prime Minister Kristen Michal, the Nordic and Baltic countries have been among Ukraine’s most steadfast supporters since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression. The combined support provided by the NB8 countries exceeds €42 billion, making their contribution the largest in the world on a per capita basis.
“I am pleased that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine will join us. Supporting Ukraine is one of the main priorities of Estonia’s NB8 presidency. We will discuss how to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities, increase pressure on Russia, and make Europe as a whole more secure,” said the Estonian Prime Minister.
In addition to Ukraine, the NB8 Prime Ministers will focus on competitiveness, the development of artificial intelligence, and regional security. The meeting is expected to result in the adoption of two joint statements: Joint Statement of the Nordic-Baltic Prime Ministers and Joint Declaration on Enhanced Security and Defence Cooperation between the NB8 countries and Ukraine.
“The Nordic and Baltic countries form one of Europe’s most closely integrated regions. We share common values, strong security cooperation, and a desire to lead in both innovation and defence technology. In Tallinn, we will discuss how to take the next step towards making our region even more competitive, secure, and influential,” Michal said.
The programme will also include a bilateral meeting between the Estonian Prime Minister and the President of Ukraine.
During his visit to Estonia, President Zelenskyy will also meet with President Alar Karis. Further information about that meeting will be provided by the Office of the President of the Republic.
At the conclusion of the NB8 Summit, at 16:10, the eight Prime Ministers and the President of Ukraine will hold a joint press conference, which will be streamed live on the Government Office’s website and YouTube channel in three languages:
