Minister of Agriculture Ivari Padar took office
Tallinn, the Riigikogu, 7 April 2014 – Minister of Agriculture Ivari Padar assumed office today by taking an oath before the Riigikogu.
 
“By undertaking to perform the duties of a member of the Government of the Republic, I am aware that I shall bear responsibility in this office before the Republic of Estonia and my conscience. I solemnly swear to remain faithful to the constitutional order of the Republic of Estonia and to devote my strength to securing the welfare and future of the people of Estonia,” Minister of Agriculture Ivari Padar said, by reading the oath of a member of the Government.
 
The Government of Taavi Rõivas assumed office on 26 March by taking an oath before the Riigikogu; until now, the duties of the Minister of Agriculture were peformed by Minister of Justice Andres Anvelt.
 
Ivari Padar served as a member of the European Parliament since 2009. Prior to this, he was a member of the 11th Riigikogu for a short period of time in 2009 and from 2003–2007, a member of the 10th Riigikogu and the Chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party. From 2007–2009, he was the Minister of Finance and from 1999–2002, the Minister of Agriculture.
 
Previously, he has also worked as the General Manager of AS HT Hulgi, the Assistant to the Chancellor at the Ministry of Finance, the Executive Chairman of the Võru Farmers Union and the Deputy Mayor of Võru.
Born on 12 March 1965 in Võru, Padar graduated from Võru Industrial Technical School. He acquired higher education from the University of Tartu in history.
