Tallinn, Stenbock House, 16 March 2020 – Today, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas, the head of the emergency situation, signed an additional order to close casinos and slot machine halls. The same order provides for an exemption for Estonian Olympic athletes to allow them to train.
Casinos and slot machine halls will be closed, because close contact and coming into contact with surfaces is unavoidable in these locations. In addition, a significant increase in casino visits can be expected when other institutions are closed.
There are two exemptions to the closure of public institutions in connection with the Summer Olympics. The Audentes Sports Centre and Pärnu Kalev Rowing Centre will remain open for the training of athletes participating in the Olympic Games, their coaches, and support staff.
“The International Olympic Committee has so far announced neither the suspension nor postponement of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, and has confirmed that preparations for the games are taking place as planned,” said Jüri Ratas, head of the emergency situation. “In order for the Estonian athletes to be successful in the Olympics, they have to be able to train.”
The media must promptly publish this order of the head of the emergency situation in an unmodified way and free of charge. We will also send a formal announcement.
