SPECIAL NOTICE: Estonia allows cross-border work to Latvia

Tallinn, Stenbock House, 20 March 2020 – The person in charge of the emergency situation, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas issued an order to mitigate the restrictions on movement between Estonia and Latvia.


At present, only the residents of the local border municipalities of Estonia and Latvia are permitted to cross the national border on a daily basis for work purposes. This amendment will allow both Estonian and Latvian residents to work in the other country regardless of the municipality of residence. Cross-border work is permitted only for people without any symptoms of the disease.


This amendment aims to reduce the impact of movement restrictions on people´s daily lives and the financial situation of businesses.


The media must publish this order issued by the person in charge of the emergency situation without delay, unchanged and free of charge. Official notification to this end will follow.
