Stenbock House, Tallinn, 14 September 2018 – Today, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas will visit Vilnius, Lithuania, where he will meet with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany.

Ratas and Merkel will discuss digital co-operation between Estonia and Germany, how to move towards practical joint projects. In addition, defence and security policies and the development of co-operation with the Eastern Partnership countries will be discussed.

“In international relations, trust is the most valuable asset. We are united with Germany through trust in our mutual communication and in the European Union and NATO. It is a fertile ground for developing digital projects in depth. The aim of our co-operation is both noble and ambitious – to save the environment, money, and time while increasing the well-being and safety of our people,” said Ratas before the meeting.

At the joint work lunch, the Baltic prime ministers, Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Lithuania, and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, will focus mainly on the internal security of the European Union, including the protection of external borders and the fight against crime, the current state of the Brexit negotiations, and migration issues – the topics that will be discussed next week in Salzburg, Austria at an unofficial meeting of the European Council.

Prime Minister Ratas will be back in Estonia this evening.
