Ratas to visit Winter Olympic Games and meet with the Prime Minister of South Korea

Tallinn, Stenbock House, 11 February 2018 – Prime Minister Jüri Ratas is departing today on a visit to South Korea, where he will attend the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang and meet with Estonian athletes, members of the Estonian Olympic Committee and major supporters of the Olympic delegation. Prime Minister Ratas will also be traveling to Seoul, where he will meet with his counterpart Lee Nak-yeon and members of the South Korean National Assembly’s South Korea-Estonia friendship group.


During his visit, Ratas will be attending the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, where he will be cheering on Estonian athletes in the Giant Slalom, 10km biathlon, 12.5 km biathlon and the 1500m speed skating events. He is also planning to watch the hockey battle between Finland and Canada.


On Wednesday, 14 February, Ratas will head to Seoul, where he will meet with Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, to discuss how to further strengthen cyber security cooperation between Estonia and South Korea, and to stimulate economic and trade relations. Prime Minister Ratas will also visit the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, where he will meet with members of the Korea-Estonia friendship group.


Estonia and South Korea are both members of Digital 5, a global cooperation network uniting the most advanced e-governments in the world, which was established in 2014. The next summit between members of Digital 5 is set to take place from 21-22 February, in Wellington, New Zealand, where Estonia will be represented by Urve Palo, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology. On Wednesday, Prime Ministers Ratas and Lee will discuss the prospects for expanding and deepening cooperation within Digital 5.


Prime Minister Ratas will return to Estonia late in the evening on Wednesday.
