The Creative Hub, Tallinn, 14 March 2019 – Estonian entrepreneurs deserve to be recognised for not only coping, but also evolving and succeeding in conditions where global economic growth is slowing down and foreign markets are so unstable, said Prime Minister Jüri Ratas at the Estonian Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 gala, organised by the business advisory and auditing bureau Ernst & Young.
According to Ratas, Estonian entrepreneurs are ready to face any challenges. Last year, investments increased and new employees were hired, which was the basis for our economic growth of 3.9 percent. The number was even higher than any prognosis had suggested.
“Last year provided some great examples of the capabilities of Estonian entrepreneurs. Think of our fourth unicorn, globally implemented parcel machines from Viljandi, or the head of an energy group who decided to share the profits from selling company shares with all the employees of the group,” the prime minister said.
At his opening speech, the prime minister praised all nominees for proudly earning their Entrepreneur of the Year nomination and stressed that the prestige of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship must increase even more in the society.
“The expectations for entrepreneurs are incredibly high. Estonian entrepreneurs are not only focused on good economic indicators, but also on sustainability and the impact that their actions have on the environment, contributing to developing the knowledge and skills of their employees, and using innovative solutions in manufacturing and services. All this is increasing the value of Estonian economy and I think that it is worthy of recognition,” Ratas said.
Entrepreneur of the Year is an extensive global competition; the Estonian winner will represent the country at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year business forum in Monaco.
