Stenbock House, Tallinn, 27 September 2018 – speaking at the annual tourism conference, the topic of which this year is “Digital Smoke Sauna?”, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas said that celebrating the 100th birthday of Estonia as well as the Presidency of the Council of the European Union last year had a positive impact on tourism.

“Many people around the world have turned their eyes on us, and many of them have already visited or hopefully will visit Estonia,” said Ratas, adding that last year, more people travelled to Estonia than ever before. In 2017, more than six million foreign visitors spent an estimated one and a half billion euros in Estonia.

Ratas acknowledged all Estonian tourism companies, Enterprise Estonia, and everyone else helping to promote Estonia’s innovative spirit and its deep roots and long traditions.

“We can be proud of the high quality and service level of Estonian accommodation establishments. As we know, Lonely Planet chose Tallinn as the best destination for 2018 of all cities in the world in terms of price and quality. This is something we all achieved together!” said the prime minister.

The prime minister was pleased that increasingly more Estonian people discover the sights of Estonia and travel around the world, which is partly due to the growth of incomes and informed policy. “The government is trying to contribute to both domestic and foreign tourism by making it as easy as possible for both travellers and businesses to manage with ease and use public services,” said Ratas.
