Prime Minister Ratas will visit Salzburg at the invitation of the chancellor of Austria

Stenbock House, 26 July 2018 – Tomorrow, on 27th of July, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas will be in Salzburg at the invitation of Sebastian Kurz, Chancellor of Austria. Austria holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. In Salzburg, the prime minister will also meet with Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, and Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Ratas will also attend the opening ceremony of the festival Salzburger Festspiele.


The meeting with Chancellor Sebastian Kurz will be addressing the priorities of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU, such as the next multiannual financial framework of the EU, migration, digital internal market, Western Balkan, and Brexit.


The topics of discussion at the meeting with Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, include the next multiannual financial framework of the EU and migration. The meeting with Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, will address Brexit and relations with Russia.


Prime Minister Ratas was pleased that the Estonian and Austrian presidencies of the Council of the EU have brought the countries closer together. “Our cooperation with Austria and Bulgaria in the presidency trio has been very good. It has given us the opportunity to direct our attention to shared priorities and implement important changes in the EU within a year and a half,” said Ratas.


The presidency trio is made up of Austria, Estonia and Bulgaria. Together, important topics were agreed upon to be addressed during the 18 months. The topics include the creation of a digital single market, the expansion of the EU, the strengthening of the neighbouring areas, and security.


The prime minister will return to Estonia on Saturday.
