Prime Minister Ratas meets Finnish President and Estonian community in Helsinki

19. February 2020 - 13:39

Stenbock House, February 19, 2020 - Prime Minister Jüri Ratas is on a visit to Helsinki today, where he will meet with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Minister of Finance Katri Kulmun. Ratas will also meet with Finnish entrepreneurs important to Estonia and will give a speech to representatives of the Estonian community at the reception of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.

“Finland is our close friend with whom we celebrate this year's hundred years of entering into diplomatic relations,” the Prime Minister said. “A lot has changed since then. We are both in the European Union now, and we stand together for the same values. Relations between our entrepreneurs and people have become more frequent every year. The economic life of the two countries is inextricably linked, and Finland currently has the largest community of Estonians living outside their home country. All this means meeting your neighbours regularly to discuss everyday issues and set targets.“

At a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, the Prime Minister will focus on European foreign and security policy issues and moving forward with digital cooperation. Estonia's wish to receive observer status in the Arctic Council will also be discussed. Prime Minister Ratas will also meet with Finance Minister Katri Kulmun, with whom they will talk about bilateral relations and negotiating the European Union's next long-term budget.

The visit of Ratas starts with an investors lunch organised in cooperation with EAS, where there will be 21 industrial and technology companies, investors and start-ups involved in or interested in investing in Estonia. The focus of the meeting will be on improving opportunities for cooperation and business plans for the future. Representatives from Elisa, ABB, Tommi Mäkinen Racing, Dicro, Taitokaari, Oribalt, Sammet Dampers, Finnish Business Angels Network, Odensö, Dynaplay, Multimek, Stera Technologies, InCap, Sajas Group, Nordic Trout, Fortaco, Mekonet, Estonian Foreign Investors Association, MCF Group, Nordea and S-Group will participate in the business lunch.

In the evening, Prime Minister Ratas will attend a reception dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the Estonian Community of Finland at the Estonian Embassy in Helsinki.
