Prime Minister Jüri Ratas is discussing the broader implementation of artificial intelligence and digital solutions with the G20 countries

8. June 2019 - 16:26

Stenbock House, June 7 - For the next two days, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas is participating at Digital Economy and Trade Ministerial of G20, held in Tsukuba, Japan.

“Estonia received an invite because this meeting mostly focuses on digital economy – an area where we have stood out in Europe and in the rest of the world. This invitation is a great honour and gives Estonia a chance to prove again that we are larger than our borders and capable of shaping global digital policies,” Ratas said. “We have an opportunity to talk about success stories and future visions as well as introduce our digital economy and e-solutions to large countries.”

At the G20 meeting, participants will discuss the challenges of digitalising global economy, such as free movement of data, human-centred artificial intelligence, digital security, and creating more flexible solutions for digital economy to encourage countries to support innovation at the government level.

A joint declaration of ministers of digital economy and trading, prepared in cooperation with Estonian specialists, will be approved at this meeting. The countries confirm with the declaration that they must start improving their capabilities of digital governance.

In Tsukuba, Prime Minister Ratas will meet with Masatoshi Ishida, the Japanese Minister for Internal Affairs, and Hiroshige Sekō, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, to discuss bilateral relations in digital solutions and the economy. Siim Sikkut, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, will also participate in the meeting.
