Tallinn, Stenbock House, March 25, 2020 - Today, the government will send an e-mail to all e-mail addresses in the population register and an SMS to customers of Estonian mobile operators informing people of the new movement restrictions that have taken effect and of changes in the opening hours of commercial and catering establishments that will be enforced soon.
The Information System Authority will send the information letter prepared in Estonian, English, and Russian to approximately 900,000 e-mail addresses. This is the second time during the coronavirus crisis that an e-mail with guidelines is sent to all residents of Estonia.
The content of the SMS urges people to stay at home and while in public, strictly follow the 2+2 principle: public gatherings are limited to two people and everyone must stay at least 2 metres away from other people. The SMS will be sent to all SIM card devices of Estonian operators located in Estonian networks.
Yesterday, the government supplemented the emergency situation measures with new movement restrictions. Starting today, gatherings in public spaces, such as playgrounds, sports grounds, promenades, and health and hiking trails are limited to two people. Everyone must stay at least 2 metres away from other people. The restriction does not apply to families and to performing public duties.
As of Friday, 27 March, only essential shops and services will remain open in shopping centres. Catering establishments can be held open until 10 p.m.
More information on the emergency situation is available on the website https://www.kriis.ee/en and the hotline 1247.
